Daniel Vance Caldwell, an employee of Palatka Welding, died after injuries sustained from a 25 foot fall from the Central Avenue building around 10am yesterday morning.
Palatka Welding had been contracted by Edifice (the lead contractor) to handle work on the new 14 screen Epic Theatres complex in the heart of Jacksonville’s Town Center development.
No company officials were available for comment to the media. Very sad for this man’s family and coworkers.
Three Connecticut roofers were seriously injured, two requiring resuscitation, after a metal ladder they were working on came in contact with an electrical wire..
All Aspects of Carpentry, the contractor the men worked for him is based out of North Branford Connecticut and is owned by William Twyford. William was one of the men injured in the accident. The two other victims were Travis and Rory Moody, brothers from Branford.
OSHA is investigating.
A three alarm fire that injured two Modesto CA firefighters and completely gutted the home of two children and their mother. The mom was attempting to refuel a generator by candlelight in the garage when the candle fell and ignited the fuel.
Firefighters showed up and a crew was sent to the roof to cut vent holes typically used to release heat and provide additional access to the fire. The roof collapsed and two firefighters fell into the burning house. Fire investigators are now looking into the structural details of the House to determine if any problems contributed to the roof collapse.
Hopefully the roof was up standards. This should serve as a reminder to everyone about the many long-term liabilities reefing companies are exposed to and why it is absolutely critical to make sure everything is done to code.
An estimated $1 million damage was sustained to the roof of the Holy Ghost Preparatory School at 2429 Bristol Pike in Bensalem Pennsylvania this afternoon after a torch being used by Russel Roofing of Oreland PA ignited a portion of the flat roof they were working on.
The Bensalem Fire Marshal reported the incident occurred about 45 minutes after the roofer’s began work, around 1:55pm. The fire was placed under control around 2:30pm.
The school had previously employed Russel Roofing and were happy with their work.

EMS crews rescued two roofers who slipped and fell off the top of the Dallas Cowboy’s Football stadium roof. The two were part of a team working to finish work on the stadium’s fabric roof panels. It is reported they were not wearing saftey harnesses or required equiptment.
It’s estimated the roofers slid 50-75 feet on the frozen roof surface before free falling into the gigantic gutter system. It took firefighters 25 minutes to reach the two. One man suffered chest and head trauma and was airlifted from the scene. The other man suffered back injuries and was hauled off in an ambulance.
The stadiums roof is the largest domed stadium in the world, rising some 300 feet above the ground. The men were lucky the gutter caught them.
Birdair is the contracting company employing the workers. OSHA was already on the scene by the time reports showed up to report the story.
